J.R. Writer: Writer's Block III

|

J.R. Writer is up from his block – 145th & Broadway in Harlem, New York – to show you where the Dipset Movement originates from and where it's gonna stay. This young Dipset rider is part of the youth movement over with The Diplomats and he's definitely representing big-time on his 3rd official mixtape with the crew.

Originally premiering on Diplomats, Volume 5 with a six-minute, 100-bar freestyle (AYE!), this talented young Harlemite is spitting fire in anticipation of his debut album History In The Making on Koch Records/Diplomat Records. With that typical Dipset swagger in tact, and a knack for battle-rapping originating from his rap roots (he was introduced to Dipset by Harlem freestyle freak/battle-rhymer Jae Millz), you know what to expect on this Dipset banger.

This all-exclusive mixtape bangs out all the hottest new J.R. Writer music, including all-new tracks, freestyles, remixes and street anthems, including new joints featuring Juelz Santana, Hell Rell, .40 Cal, Jha Jha, Slim Thug, Gwen Stefani, Razah and Fred Money. Get down with the Writer's Block.

MTV's Mixtape Monday - March 13th '06

DJ and Artist: E. Nyce and Lupe Fiasco

Representing:
Chicago and NYC

Mixtape:
Touch the Sky

411:
Who can dispute Lupe Fiasco's claim of having the game wrapped up like "Thundercats" villain Mumra (the ever ever liviiiing!)? Chicago native already racked up Grammy nominations for his behind-the-scenes work on Beyoncé's Dangerously in Love's LP, launched his own sneaker with Reebok and scored a major guest spot on Kanye's "Touch the Sky" song, video and tour. Oh yeah, and Jay-Z will be the executive producer of Lupe's Food and Liquor, his debut LP due June 27 on Atlantic. Yes, "debut": He's had two prior label deals (with Epic and Arista) and has done all of this without putting out an album. Haters, get on your job.

Lupe's buzz has been chiefly built on his Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtape series that he's been releasing for free on the Internet over the past couple of years. He's teamed up with DJ E. Nyce to put together some of the best selections from his mixtapes as well as a few joints you've never heard before. Fiasco breaks it down for us.

MTV's Mixtape Monday - March 6th '06

Artists: Ghostface Killah and DJ Green Lantern

Representing:
Cyber thugs

Mixtape:
Internet Invasion

411:
Considering that this mixtape features one of the game's most innovative MCs and one of its most creative DJs, you'd have to pay attention off name value alone. But there's a special twist here: You can only get this mixtape via the Internet — for now, anyway. It's designed to be distributed not on a blanket by your favorite sidewalk bootlegger, but strictly through cyberspace (for promotional use only, of course). There isn't even a CD: It's all MP3s.

Green Lantern continues to distinguish himself from most other mixtape DJs because he actually produces these mixtapes like albums. On this one, he really put his foot in, because the selections are truly a team effort: Green was given a gaggle of Ghost a cappella tracks about a year ago and sat on them for quite some time. He recently started to build songs around them, teaming Ghost's vocals with some instrumentals that we've already heard along with some brand-new beats. Green made all the original tracks, of course.
