I've been using western Digital since 96.. all hard drives crash at some point, especially if you if you don't take care of em, don't leave your computer on for hours or all day, don't sit transferring files all day, defrag your hard drive if you have over 20 GB of data on it at least once a week, less if you have less than 20 gb, scan for errors, and compact your hard drive and keep it clean and you'll have a longer lasting relationship with ya harddrives no matter what company it come from. I have 8 TB worth of Hard drives Mostly WD's but i have a few Maxtors and 2 Hitachi's and i always move my important shit to an external hard drive i hardly ever turn on, i do that because i hardly ever plug it in unless i want to back up shit or move shit from it and i keep it parked in the coolest part of my Computer room, right under the A/C vent, also make sure you have nothing with Magnets near it!, i mean nothing, if you have stereo speakers near your computer, your gonna keep losing hard drives, move them as far away from your system as possible, I use Hard Disk Sentinel, Perfect Disk 9 and Disk Keeper 10 pro Softwares to keep my hard drives running smooth and forever,.... i also run a mini server for my websites i host and i work in IT at my job so take my word for it i know what im doing.... And don't touch ya computer after walking on carpet or touching your hair, otherwise ground yourself to a metal part on the PC before removing or touching anything.. [-N.O. Saints #1 in 09-]

wudd up dninc, thanks for all the advice big homie, you sure know ALOT more than i do about computers and shit, I wish i had half the knowledge you have about this shit bro, I sure would save a TON of fuckin money thats for sure, I've got a few thousand tied up just this year between my laptop and PC, my laptop went retarded on me 3 months ago and had to go hit them geek squad niggas up, cost me $1,100 all together for the reformat, replacement parts, and windows disc. Anyway what happened to me this time was i bought a new PC last month, i had a HP Pavilion X4 9750 but it was AMD and i wasnt feelin the whole AMD shit so i copped that new HP Pavilion wit the i7 processor and sold my old PC to my mans, well anyway when I was in the process of taking everything off my comp. and puttin it on my western dig. 1TB so i could transfer everything to my new PC i dropped the external hardrive on the ground, didnt sound that bad though, like it didnt make no crazy breaking noise or anything? Well when I went to put all my shit on to my new PC and plugged it in it wouldnt recognize the harddrive, anyway I took it to 2 different places (Geek Squad & Office Max for a second opinion) and both said that it was past level 3 damage and the ONLY WAY i could recover all my shit was to have my drive sent away to a specialist and THEY START AT $2,500 depending on the damage level and it could cost all the way up to $4,000, well FUCK THAT HOMIE, the way my business has been going latley, I dont make half the money i did before this recession shit, Im not putting out $4-$5K to recover all my data & media, so im in the process of recovering all my music, I had close to 800GB of music, aboyt 300-400Gb of mixtapes and about another 300-400Gb's in store bought CD's, Ive been collecting music and mixtapes for 15 years cuz, I LOST EVERYTHING because most of my real CD's i would rip onto my comp. and sell the disc on eBay or lend them out to friends and shit, you know how that goes LOL, and all my older mixtapes I still have because this website is only 2005 and newer, i have THOUSANDS of mixtapes from the 90's & early 2000's and i didnt lose all that i just have to rip it all again (pain in my ass). And get this, not only did i have 800GB of music but it was ALL EDITED & RATED the way i like it, EVERY FUCKING TRACK, i rate my songs in media player 1-5 stars, all artwork is pasted, every song edited, it will take me YEARS to get it all back the way I like my music, i actually wanted to kill myself when this happened LOL. What i do is when i D/L a new mixtape, i paste the artwork, then edit the songs, then rate the tracks from 1-5 stars, i had the most organized music folder IN THE WORLD, plus i lost all my pics, all my vids, everything bro, i really dont want to put out thousands of dollars right now, do you have any advice for me cuz? sorry for the long ass story haha [-N.O. If you have an old PC, the best way to try is loading Norton Ghost on the the old computer, then hook a USB harddrive that works to that computer and set it as a slave drive secondary drive, and hook that broken harddrive set as a third slave drive the same computer, load the computer up load Norton ghost up, see if the broken harddrive gets "any life to it".. if so, Norton Ghost can take an image of that entire harddrive and save it as an .ISO file.......................... Now Move that ISO file to the Secondary Slave drive and move that secondary harddrive to the better computer, and move that ISO file to that system, use Nero or Magic ISO to open the ISO file and drag and drop all that over to a Folder on your desktop, move the music over and you saved ya shit...................... If the drive is totally dead and no power is getting to it you have no choice but to take it to a PC medic to recover the files from the actual The magnetic disk tape, something you or i will know nothing about, it's forensic work they do to pull that off..
