With rap, as with any music, the idea is that the artist is speakin to us about his personal life. More so in rap, because the image is streets and hood. Its the illusion that we are listening to a thug get up out the hood and the ways he did it. Now, when that illusion is broken, people get pissed because they feel lied to. The artists work is shot to hell because of his history. Not one other genre I can think of where a guys past record plays into his music so much. It sucks because a talented guy can lose all his followers because he actually bettered himself with a job or a degree. BBBUUTTT it can't be helped.
