Wannabe DJs, your day has come...Activision's "DJ Hero" drops next Summer

We generally keep it strictly mixtapes here but I thought this was interesting enough to share. Nearly 2 years in development, game publishing tycoon Activision is set to release DJ Hero next summer.

In the latest form, the device looks a lot like a simplified DJ Deck. There is a platter for scratching which will act like the strum toggle on a Guitar Hero guitar. Above the platter are three buttons for sampling. The controller also includes a cross fader and a sound effects dial which will act like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero.

Instead of flowing the musical notes down a guitar neck, DJ Hero will flow the music down and around a virtual record in a half arc. Either left top to middle bottom if you are left handed, or right top to middle bottom if you are right handed.

To play you will have to either hold a sample button and scratch, just hold a button or just scratch as the neon icons flow around the virtual vinyl.

I understand what you mean, but its the sign of the times. I've been djing since the early 90's and shit has come a long way. I did switch to cds cause they were easier. Now its a digital age. I bet those dj's you mentioned have switched to digital. Think about it you can carry around thousands of records to your gigs or just a laptop. you be the judge. when they switched from 8 tracks to tapes to cds to now mp3's, didn't you follow......

this is like the dj version of guitar hero its a game right? or can actually make music? if you can actually make music like cds that is kind of wack. djing is a skill and is shouldnt be made that simple by software .Its a cheap way to do what other djs take a while in time and effort to learn.

i have LOW expectations for

i have LOW expectations for this game. i mean it might be fun but the same way kidz play guitar hero all the time when they could spend that time trying to learn the real thing, the same thing is gonna happen here. almost all tapes on here are made or hosted by dj's but VERY FEW of them actually show off their skillz by mixing tracks or scratching. even the 'BLEND' dj's dont show their skillz. why even have turntables if u aint gonna scratch or even try to learn? and yes, im willin to battle any one of u fooz.
