The armed forces(army, navy, marines, air force, etc) is a job just like any other job. You get paid for basic training, they pay you for school, they pay for everything. Most people who join the armed forces join for the free education, hell that's what most of the commercials advertise. It's not really about serving your country that's just one of the job requirements that you are ready to go to war if needed. You seem to have a pretty warped view of how things work.
